Welcome to Sterling!
Sterling, Kansas is a small rural community located in Rice County. Sterling was originally known as Peace when it was founded in 1872. It was in 1876 when two brothers changed the name to Sterling after their father Sterling Rosan. Today, Sterling is a town of approximately 2,300 residents and offers a range of business opportunities. The community offers a PreK-6th-grade elementary school that was named a Blue Ribbon School in 2018. The Junior and Senior High School offer a wide range of courses, athletics, and fine arts programs. To top things off, the community's education history continues with Sterling College. Sterling College was founded in 1887 under the original name of Cooper Memorial College. It was not until 1920 when the name was changed to reflect the community's name.
