USD 376 libraries had an excellent year with a focus on updating and modernizing our jr/sr high school library space. District-wide, we checked out over 25,000 books and brought in $9,288 in outside funding through grants and book fair earnings through the work of district librarian Amy Brownlee, library assistant Michelle Miller, and part-time aide Alison Anderson. Take a look at our end-of-year summary reports below.
Our biggest accomplishment was seeing the completion of an 18-month-long process to update the Sterling Jr/Sr High School Library. The space received new paint, carpet, fiction shelves, and tables and chairs on wheels to provide flexible seating for a variety of meetings and events. The project was paid for through a $20,000 Libraries Transform grant awarded by the South Central Kansas Library System with matching funds from the district.
According to librarian Amy Brownlee, “our vision was to transform our dated 1980s library into a 21st century learning commons to provide space for innovation and collaboration and to facilitate our mission of equipping students as lifelong learners who solve problems, achieve and grow.” Learn more about the project and view photos here.
