
Mrs. Farney and Mrs. Briar's 4th grade classrooms attended McPherson College children's water festival on Friday, October 24th. Over 500 4th graders from surrounding counties attended a day long adventure learning about the importance of protecting the water supply for the future in a fun and entertaining way. Students attended seven different workshops such as Gooey Garbage, Kitchen Chemistry and Edible Aquifer.

Results of the 2A Girls Regional XC Meet at SE of Saline today: Congrats to Julia Kilgore - 2nd place state qualifier, Katie Inwood - 6th place state qualifier; Team - 3rd place state qualifiers consisting of Julia Kilgore, Katie Inwood, Israel Kuhn, Kyler Larsen and Lanae Welty. Great job, ladies and coaches!!! State XC will be held at the Wamego Country Club on Saturday, November 2nd. 2A girls will run at 10:00 am.

CALLING ALL VETERANS.... our Veterans Day Ceremony will be held on November 11th, 2024 starting at 1:30pm. We are getting the news out early so you can plan your travel or day. Honorary speaker will be Lt. Col Russ Allen, the Senior Aerospace Science Instructor from Lyons along with his JROTC cadets. This year we are inviting all Veteran's to join us for a free luncheon in the HIgh School Old gym before the ceremony. If the Veteran has a student in the Sterling Grade School or the Sterling Jr. High / High School the student will be allowed to join them at the luncheon. Please RSVP for the luncheon and /or register for the ceremony by November 6th to the Sterling Grade School at 620-278-3112.

Last weekend, Saturday, October 19th, Mrs. Madden attended the Kansas Art Education Conference where she was awarded KAEA Elementary Art Teacher for the 2024 school year. Congratulations Mrs. Madden! Sterling Schools and especially SGS staff and students are so proud of you!



Sub-State VB will be at Ellinwood on Saturday, October 26th. Sterling plays Ellinwood at 2:00 pm. Admission is $8/Adults and $6/K-12 Students as set by KSHSAA.

Congratulations to Chelsie Brown as she defeated Seitz of KCCH 6-4, 6-0 to become the KSHSAA 3-2-1A Girls Singles State Tennis Champion. Chelsie finished the season a perfect 36-0.



Chelsie Brown (35-0) won her semi-final match this morning 6-4, 6-3 and will play for a state championship today! Great day to be a Black Bear!!!

Chelsie Brown (34-0) won her first two matches at 3-2-1A State Tennis today and is playing in the state semi-final at 9:00 am tomorrow. Way to go Chelsie!!!

Mr. Hammer, Mrs. Young and their 2nd graders paired up to read with their High School Football player, book buddy, this afternoon. What an inspiration these HS players are to our young readers!

SHS JV FB plays at Buhler on Monday, October 21st. Game time is 4:00 pm.

There will be a SJH Basketball Parent Meeting on Monday, October 21st at 6:00 pm. The girl's parent meeting will be in the South Gym and the boy's parent meeting will be in the SJSHS Choir Room.

Mrs. Alexis Comley and her 4th grade music class performed a Recorder, Rhythms, and Rounds Program today in the SGS commons for an audience of over 75 parents, grandparents, students and staff members. Their songs consisted of: Music Alone Shall Live - A German Folk Song, This piece required the students to focus on creating a choral sound while exercising their abilities to sing in a rounds. The Glory Trains' a Comin' , - Various Spirituals and Fold Songs, This piece demonstrated how the students used their composition skills to create their own mash-up including three different traditional songs and their own recorder composition. Hot Cross Buns, - Students focused on proper recorder techniques using warm air to create a good sounding tone on the instrument. Ahrirang a Traditional Korean Folk Song - allowed students to play different musical instruments and finally and Skin and Bones - Arr. Maddox which was a tradition and crowd favorite.

Congratulations to the SHS Girls Tennis Team as they were crowned 3-1A Regional Tennis Champions on Saturday at the Dodge City 3-1A Regional Tennis Tournament. State Qualifiers are as follows: Singles - Chelsie Brown 1st, Danika Zimmerman 4th; Doubles - Emily Wellman & Jaiden Jaeger 1st. State Tennis will be October 18-19 at the Wichita-Riverside Tennis Complex.
