VETERANS WE SALUTE YOU! Today we had a district celebration for the courageous and brave who served for our country. Thank you to ALL the veterans who took the time out of their day to let us show our appreciation for you! Thank you , Lt. Col. Russ Allen, Senior Aerospace Science Instructor from Lyons High School for being our keynote speaker. We appreciate Lyons High School's ROTC for attending and the ROTC Color Guard for presenting the colors. A luncheon was held for Veterans and their families before the ceremony. 1st and 3rd grade classrooms designed the table coverings and the HS and JR High led by Mrs. Wohler and Mrs. Rowland helped serve our veterans to show our appreciation.

Mr. Comley and Mrs. Beagley's 3rd grade classrooms learned about the process of how a bill becomes a law. Each classroom presented a bill for a vote of the teachers, approval from the Superintendent, and signed into law by the principal. Mr. Comley's bill provides the school with a Kindness Wall that will be designed with the collaboration of SGG and SHS Art classes. Mrs. Beagley's 3rd grade classroom will begin the process of raising money for a Book Vending Machine. Students of all grades will be able to earn books from our vending machine. Great job 3rd grade classrooms for your hard work on learning how to pass a bill into law.

Mrs. Morris's, 5th grade ELA class, recently read the folktale, Blancaflor, where a hero was on a quest to stay faithful to his word, save his father, and win the heart of the princess. Folktales involve a fictional form of magic to accomplish impossible tasks. Though it seems like magic is only something a magician in real life can do, we realized we can create magic in the kitchen by taking individual ingredients and transforming them into something delicious. Our story, From Tale to Table, showed us just how this can be done.

For anyone wondering how SJSHS achieves such amazing results . . . it starts years earlier with the "littles." SHS Applied English visited the remarkable SGS pre-school last week. Every kid in Kansas should be so lucky! Thanks Miss Lydia, Miss Emily, and Miss Shelbi for hosting us. The Class of 2039 is off to a great start. Goldilocks and her Black Bears! What a wonderful day it was for a parade down Broadway. The students had a blast and felt like celebrities parading down the street. They were so excited to show-off their costumes. Special thank you to the Sterling police Department, the City of Sterling, and Community members, for welcoming the parade back uptown. Thank you to all the homeroom parents who helped our students celebrate the day. Happy and safe Halloween from all of us at SGS!
